The Holy Spirit’s
Work in the Church

I.
The
Spirit created the church (Acts 2:1-4: 1 Cor. 12:13).
II. The Spirit indwells the church (1 Cor. 3:16: Eph. 2:21-22: I Peter 2:4-5).
III. The Spirit presides
over the Church (Acts 15:28).
A. The Spirit presides over the Church through its Government…
1. He appoints the overseers. Acts
20:28.
2. He distributes spiritual gifts.1
Cor. 12:4-11.
3. He calls the church to listen to His voice: Rev. 2:7, 11, 17, 29; 3:6, 13, 22.
B. The Spirit presides over the Church through its Preaching (Acts 4:8-12: I Cor. 2:4: 1 Thess. 1:5).
C. The Spirit presides over the Church through its Prayer (Eph. 6:18).
D. The Spirit presides over the Church through its Song (Eph. 5:18-19).
IV. The Spirit unifies
the church: Eph. 4:3.
V. The Spirit extends
and completes the church.
A. He selects special workers
(e.g., missionaries); Acts 13:2.
B. He sends the workers
forth - Acts 13:4.
C. He chooses fields of service
- Acts 16:6-7.
D. He sustains them in difficult times—even under persecution - Acts 13:50-52.
E. He guides in the solution of both missionary & church problems - Acts 15:28.
SUMMARY: The Holy Spirit was
both the Creator and the Director of the Apostolic Church!
