“CALL THE EXPERTS!”

Rom. 3:4: “Yes, let God be found true, but every man a liar.”

 

One means through which the empowered elites and specialists of our day maintain their controlling influence over the culture is through their relentless insistence that they—and they alone—possess a “scientific” knowledge and intellectual authority that lies far beyond the pale of ordinary, unenlightened citizens—and which is therefore not susceptible to review by society’s “deplorables.”

Such ruling-class pomposity was on generous display at October’s Vice-Presidential debate when the partisan CBS “moderators” blithely regurgitated the purported “expert consensus” concerning the alleged causal-relationship between human industrial activity and climate change—dogmatically demanding our complete assent to their scientifically unproven (but politically correct!) affirmations. 

Offering an unsolicited lecture upon these matters, one moderator went on to suggest that there is definite “scientific consensus” that the allegedly increasing intensity of our recent hurricanes like Helene is the “direct result” of human fossil fuel consumption—a preposterously unverifiable assertion that not only lies entirely outside the realm of the scientific method, but which also flies in the face of compiled historic weather data! 

But no matter: in making this assertion, CBS’s Norah O’Donnell appealed unto the “EXPERTS”! The same sort of “experts” who would doubtless insist that human beings are descended from brute animals. Or that the Universe began with a mindless Big Bang explosion. Or that complex life forms on Earth somehow “self-generated.” Or that libido-dominated Freudian psychoanalysis is in some way “therapeutic.” Or that utopian neo-Marxian socio-economic-political constructs are somehow “scientific.”  

Consider for a moment the malleable and limited nature of man's sciences. A Ptolemaic understanding of the Solar System once governed--and they even had the mathematics to "prove" it! Indeed, as we peruse science texts written only a few decades ago, it is with no small degree of amusement that we find yesterday’s certain “dogmas” either completely discarded (e.g., "Steady State" cosmology), or else subject to drastic remodification and revision (e.g., the "Big Bang" Theory). How different from the unalterable testimony of Holy Scripture (Isa. 40:8)!

Isa. 40:8: "The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God stands forever." 

Lest some misunderstanding arise at this point, we are NOT disparaging mankind’s legitimate scientific achievements and accumulated technical knowledge. Nor are we attempting to uniformly and universally belittle professionalism and expertise as it relates to the entire panorama of human arts and sciences. All of us rejoice, for example, in the services rendered by our highly-trained, life-saving medical professionals, and each of us rely on a daily basis upon the technical expertise of trained engineers who continue to design buildings with structural integrity.

But it should be recognized that when we deal with the speculative “sciences” such as biological evolution, uniformitarian geology, cosmological origins, and long-term climate change, we are NOT dealing with the sort of mathematically-based “hard” sciences that put man on the moon, or which provided us with a polio vaccine. The latter are within the realm of the scientific method, involving direct observation, as well as repeatable and falsifiable experimentation. The speculative sciences (e.g., Darwinism), on the other hand, involve NONE of these things. Rather, they fall more comfortably into the realm of faith and speculative philosophy, based upon various unproven presuppositions (such as NATURALISM: i.e., “there is NO God—therefore the complex DNA molecule—the building block of life—MUST have somehow ‘put-itself-together’”).

When we consider the fact that the Father of Lies (John 8:44) exerts a godlike influence (2 Cor. 4:4) over the hearts and minds of the greater portion of humanity (Matt. 7:13-14), it should come as no great surprise that man’s arts and sciences are subject to vast delusion and widespread corruption.

We recall Dr. John C. Whitcomb’s application of Rom. 3:4, which sums the matter up rather well: “Let every geologist, biologist, astronomer, cosmologist, archeologist, paleontologist, and astrophysicist be found a LIAR—but let God be found TRUE!”
